Join Us

Looking for a fun and social activity with likeminded locals? How about a competitive sport where you can challenge yourself against players from other clubs? Bowls is a great game which anyone can play, with many social and competitive opportunities available.

Lilydale is looking to grow its membership and encourages locals to give bowls a go. Introductory coaching is available and our members will welcome you into the club.

A Game For All

Bowls is truly a sport for all ages, genders, and abilities. Known for diversity, equity, and inclusion, in most teams you will find a broad range of individuals. There are over 500 bowling clubs in Victoria and over 42,000 registered bowlers. A large number of people also participate in barefoot bowls and other social bowls activities, including school programs.

Whether you wish to play socially or competitively, there are various opportunities available. As a full bowling member you are able to play in a range of events, including pennant, club championships, social bowls, and tournaments at both Lilydale and clubs around Australia.

"Our vision is for all Australians to engage with bowls during their lifetime." - Bowls Australia

The Basics

The game has numerous formats, including singles, pairs, triples, and fours. The objective is to get as many of your bowls close to the small ball (called a jack or kitty). It might sound easy, but it can often take years to master.

Bowls can be played both indoors and outdoors on grass or artificial surfaces. Lilydale Bowling Club has 3 greens which consist of 22 rinks/lanes, ensuring that there is space for a variety of competitions.

Additional Information

You can find out more about bowls via the video and flyer below. More information can be found on the 'Bowls Explained' section of the Bowls Australia website and the 'Why Play Bowls' page of the Bowls Victoria website.

Lilydale Bowling Club legend John Snell published a popular book called 'Winning Bowls' in 1982. You can find each chapter online on his website which gives an in-depth explanation of how you too could win bowls.
